The Times, March 31, 2022 — The defendants in the biggest corporate legal case before the High Court are hunting for new lawyers since two big firms said they would withdraw after one of the defendants, the Russian oligarch Dmitry Mazepin, was sanctioned by the EU.
The trial centres on allegations that Mazepin, an ally of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, used a corrupt “corporate raid” scheme to gain control of Togliattiazot (ToAZ), a fertiliser producer valued at $3 billion (€2.7 billion) and the largest producer of trade ammonia in Russia. The allegations are denied.
The case has already run for six years, cost millions of euros in legal fees, and resulted in seven pre-trial judgments. Read more…
